Behind The Scenes: FFV Supporting Clubs' FFA Cup Success
Magic Of The Cup A Credit To Victorian Clubs
Football Federation Victoria wishes to congratulate South Melbourne FC on being the last Member Federation team standing in the Westfield FFA Cup ahead of its semi-final against Sydney FC on Wednesday October 11.
For the third time in four editions of the Westfield FFA Cup, Victoria is again the Member Federation with the last team standing. It is also the Member Federation with the highest number of teams entered in the tournament.
Such was the popularity of Westfield FFA Cup in 2017, Victoria initiated an additional round of qualifying to accommodate demand of Regional Affiliate clubs to play in the tournament.
The enthusiasm within Victoria for FFA Cup has been matched from regional and community level by PlayStation 4 NPL Victoria clubs. This year a Victorian NPL club will not be eliminated by a Member Federation club from a rival state, with Hume City (to Bentleigh Greens), Bentleigh Greens (to Western Sydney Wanderers) and Heidelberg United (to Adelaide United) falling either to Victorian or Hyundai A-League opposition.
FFV is proud to provide assistance to competing clubs on match-day from the Round of 32 onwards with between 10 and 14 staff attending each home match. In addition to Wednesday's match at Lakeside Stadium, Victoria also hosted three Round of 32 matches, two Round of 16 matches and a Quarter Final. FFV staff were engaged in rolls such as event manager, team liaison, stretcher bearers, and ALDI MiniRoos Coordiantors.
FFV works with host clubs prior to match-day to ensure the best possible experience for the community and wider population and increased crowds that are drawn to the Westfield FFA Cup. FFV sees it as a point of pride to assist clubs in setting the highest standards in FFA Cup fixtures and to maximise exposure on the national stage.
FFV also sends staff members as away team liaison for interstate trips, this year being a Round of 16 match and a Quarter Final.
In 2016 and 2017, FFV also web streamed all four Round 7 matches live to give National Round of 32 qualifiers some exposure prior to the entry of Hyundai A-League clubs.
