Chris Hope and Steph Catley nominated for 2017 Victorian Sport Awards
Football's two nominees strong contenders for award
NPL Victoria Referee Chris Hope has been nominated for the Sports Accounting Australia Victorian Official of the Year.
Chris was named NPL Referee of the Year in 2017 for the first time. He officiated the 2017 NPL Victoria Grand Final and 2017 Dockerty Cup Final due to his high level of performance in across the season. Chris officiated the NPL National Finals Semi Final match between Heidelberg United and APIA Leichardt. In addition to his own refereeing he has contributed significantly as a mentor to other referees in both metro and regional Victoria in order to assist referees achieving their goals. Chris began his refereeing career in 2004 and is well respected by both coaches and players in NPL Victoria.
W-League Footballer Stephanie Catley has been nominated for the Kitty McEwan Award - Victorian Female Athlete of the Year.
Stephanie Catley captained Melbourne City FC in back to back W-League Championships in both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, defeating Perth Glory in the 2017 Grand Final 2-0. Steph is an integral member of the Westfield Matildas, totaling 61 appearances to date. Further to her on-field success, Steph also dedicates her time to promoting female football. She was the first female player to appear on the cover of EA Sport’s FIFA, alongside Lionel Messi in FIFA 16, and is also a National Ambassador for ALDI MiniRoos.
