Re-accreditation and updating
Football Federation Australia and Australian Sports Commission accreditations are valid for a period of four (4) consecutive years. Coaches that have remained active at the appropriate level and have met the updating requirements specific to each Coaching Licence may apply to Football Federation Victoria for renewal of their accreditation.

Coach ID Cards
Your coach identification cards are processed by the FFA in Sydney once given approval from the state federations. These are processed and printed in large batches and therefore are only printed every few months. We ask for your patience in receiving these cards, however, if it has been several months since completing your course then please contact Andrew Carey via on 9474 1814 or acarey@footballfedvic.com.au
What is updating?
All coaches registered with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC, previously known as the ACC or Australian Coaching Council) are registered for a four-year period. Coaches are required to continue their education during this period and accrue updating points by attending appropriate coach education activities and actively coaching.
Coaches are required to update their registration to:
- Ensure they stay abreast of rule changes in their sport.
- Ensure they are aware of the most up to date techniques and coaching methods.
- Ensure that the coaching environment is safe for all participants and reduces the likelihood of coaches becoming involved in legal actions.
- Ensure that sport and the ASC have an up-to-date register of active coaches.
How does updating work?
When a coach receives an accreditation card (from the ASC) after completing a course, the 'update clock' starts. This is indicated by the expiry date shown on the card. Coaches complete updating points to remain an accredited coach ie. on the NCAS & FFV Database. All coaches need to update their licence and accreditation card once it expires. To update, please complete the Re-accreditation & Code of Ethics forms together with the $40 re-accreditation fee and return to the Football Federation Victoria or email your inquiries to Coaching.
With your completed re-accreditation form, your Code of Ethics signed form and/or your Update Log Book (details below), the Coaching and Development Manager will evaluate your coaching activities during the last four years. The FFV will then advise you to send the corresponding fee. Once received, you will be issued with a current Licence Certificate and will be added onto the ASC (old ACC) registration listing in order to receive your current NCAS ID card.
Typical updating activities include
- Active coaching
- Attending an accreditation course at the next level
- Work with a mentor coach
- Sport related tertiary study
- First aid/cardio-pulmonary resuscitation
- Sports trainer qualifications
- Sports related workshops and seminars
- Involvement in State, National and International competitions
- Training camps
- Referees/officials courses
- Lecturing at a coach education course
- Events specified by your sport
- ASC/NOP organised events
- Seminars conducted by Sport & Recreation
What happens if you don't update?
If you do not complete the updating requirements as specified by your NSO, your name will be removed from the NCAS database of nationally registered coaches and you will no longer be recognised as an NCAS coach. This may also affect your insurance cover.
To re-enter the NCAS you will be required to complete appropriate updating activities as specified by your sport. In some cases coaches are required to re-do the appropriate level NCAS course. Special leave considerations (such as maternity leave, leave related to employment, etc.) are available and should be discussed with your National Coaching Director.
