Each year Football Federation Victoria develops several junior state squads, ranging from Under 13 Boys Metro and Country, Under 14 Boys Metro and Country, Under 15 Boys Metro and Country, Under 13 Girls Metro and Country, as well as Under 15 Girls and Under 17 Girls.

Representative sides are trained and prepared for the National Championships. Each July the Friendship Games are held for the Under 13 representatives whilst the Girls Under 15 and 17 National Championships are also head in July. Meanwhile the Boys Under 14 and 15 representatives have their National Championships in September.

How to Nominate/Trial
Nominations for the state squads take place in December of the year prior (For example: Nominations for Under 13 Boys Metro 2008 squad open in December 2007). They are open for a four week period allowing clubs to nominate only the players in their team of the highest standard.

Nominations are held in 2 separate phases.
Phase 1 is for players who have been nominated by clubs, schools and regional associations via an online nomination form.
Phase 2 is for previously identified players, V>Elite players and successful Phase 1 players.

Eligibility
A player’s state squad eligibility is determined by their residency and their age.
A player’s physical address must be within the state of Victoria and this is what determines what state the player is eligible for. However, should the player not be selected by his state of residence then he will be eligible for another state, should he play his club football in that state.
A player must meet the age criteria set by the FFV to be eligible to trial for a state squad.
