Dockerty Cup Final Set For ABD Stadium
Bentleigh Greens To Face Heidelberg United In Decider
The 2017 Dockerty Cup Final will be played at ABD Stadium, home of Hume City FC on Wednesday July 5.
Kick-off for the match between Heidelberg United and Bentleigh Greens will be at 7:30pm. The Dockerty Cup is proudly presented by Mitre in 2017.
Defending champion Bentleigh Greens will be trying to join the short list of clubs who have won back-to-back Dockerty Cups, while Heidelberg United has never won the Dockerty Cup trophy.
Heidelberg last played in the final in 1993.
ABD Stadium is hosting the Dockerty Cup final for the second time in its history, having been the venue for Bentleigh's 1-0 extra time win against Green Gully last year.
First contested in 1909, the Dockerty Cup has been an enduring part of the Victorian football landscape, in spite of World Wars, falling into recess and various name changes.
The Dockerty Cup name was restored in 2014, having last been contested under the name in 1996, falling dormant for 1997 to 2003, returning as the Crazy John's Cup in 2004, again going into recess 2005 to 2011, returning as the Mirabella Cup in 2011, then using the name FFV State Knockout Cup in 2012-13.
Westfield FFA Cup Victorian qualifying serves a dual purpose, as the final four that qualify for the National Round of 32 also progress to the semi-finals of the Dockerty Cup.
Heidelberg United defeated Hume City 5-0 in the semi-final round, while Bentleigh Greens defeated South Melbourne 2-0.
