Dockerty Cup Restored To Former Glory
Details For Dockerty Cup Final at ABD Stadium
The 2016 Dockerty Cup Final, Bentleigh Greens v Green Gully will be played at ABD Stadium, Broadmeadows on Wednesday August 17, 2016. Full details below.
This year's winners will hoist the century-old trophy, restored to its former glory by Football Federation Victoria partner Winning Edge Presentations.
Using photos of the trophy, Winning Edge has replaced the player figurine atop the trophy's lid with a piece replicating the original Dockerty Cup design.
FFV Senior Competitions Coordinator Brad Borsato said it was a point of pride to ensure the Dockerty Cup trophy continued to represent the competition's history and prestige.
"Winning Edge was our first port of call to see if it was possible to see if a restoration was possible and they said most definitely," Borsato said.
"We think they've done a fantastic job given they were working off photography and did not have a design plan for the original.
In the last decade, Victoria's state knock-out cup has come out of recess (2011) resumed presenting the Dockerty Cup to its winner (2012-13) and in 2014 returned to using the name Dockerty Cup for the first time since 1996.
Since 2014, the Westfield FFA Cup Victorian Qualifying Rounds have doubled as the path to making the Dockerty Cup semi-finals.
"Fortunately and unfortunately the trophy had a mishap in the celebrations after being awarded last year and the player figurine broke off," Borsato said.
"It was an opportunity to get the trophy back to as near the original state as possible.
"It's important to acknowledge the history of the trophy. When you go around the grounds you hear from the people who remember when their club won the trophy, or even when they lifted it themselves.
"To bring the trophy back to its original state was an opportunity to add value and importance to what is a fantastic competition, and one of the oldest trophies in Australia."
