FFV Talent Identification and Development Centre Tournament
DISC hosts a successful youth tournament
On Monday June 11 FFV hosted a Talent Identification and Development Centre (TIDC) Gala Day tournament at Darebin International Sports Centre.
Over 500 players from five regional (Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Shepparton & Wodonga) and three metropolitan (North-West, Central and South-East) talent centres participated in 30 matches throughout the day.
The tournament saw lots of high quality matches and provided players an opportunity to be viewed by FFV and FFA technical staff in a match environment.
The program has had identified players training once a week in their Regional/Metro TIDC squad under a national training program introduced to expose more potentially talented players to state/national training principals.
In 2018, the tournament was included as a method to bring in players from across the state to monitor their progress in a match environment for state/national representative squads. This tournament also allowed the coaching staff to view the execution of the content delivered from the training sessions, ensuring that players are receiving high quality training that is consistent in both metropolitan and regional areas.
FFA Boys Youth Development Manager, Kevin Grima, was present to observe the tournament and was impressed with the event and talent coming through Victoria:
“Congratulations to Football Federation Victoria for organising a highly successful Talent Identification event for over 500 youth players on June 11th at Darebin International Sport Centre. This event enabled the best youth players in Victoria to test themselves against each other and for FFV and FFA to benchmark players in the view for state and national team selection”
FFA National Technical Director Eric Abrams had this to say about the tournament:
“Congrats, great effort and fantastic that so many players and coaches were involved in an engaging environment with the right mindset, an exemplary model for other Member Federations to run”
FFV would like to thank all the players who participated on the day for making in such a successful event.
