Football Federation Victoria appoints Peter Filopoulos as CEO

Appointment paves way for Victoria to lead football’s ongoing development

The Board of Football Federation Victoria (FFV) is delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Filopoulos as the organisation’s new CEO, effective 21 May 2018.

Mr Filopoulos joins FFV after three seasons as CEO of A-League club Perth Glory, where he led the revitalisation of the club after a major salary cap saga. This included the development and implementation of a new strategic direction for the club. He has some 23 years’ experience as a strategic and commercial leader across Australia’s sports and entertainment sectors including senior roles with Swimming Australia, Etihad Stadium, and AFL clubs North Melbourne and Hawthorn FC. He served as CEO of former National Soccer League club, South Melbourne, from 1993-1999.

Announcing the appointment, FFV President Kimon Taliadoros said Mr Filopoulos had the experience, track record and industry knowledge to guide Victorian football through its next phase of growth.

“Peter’s appointment is a great win for the game in Victoria, including for our 360 clubs and 284,000-plus participants across the state”, said Mr Taliadoros. “His strong leadership qualities, combined with his deep knowledge of football at all levels creates the opportunity for Victorian football to lead the way when it comes to the game’s ongoing development.”

“As an organisation, we’re driven by an obsessive focus on the health and prosperity of our clubs. And, we’re focused on continuing to grow participation numbers at all levels of the game, across all ages, cultures and abilities, and among girls and women where interest has never been stronger. It means providing the facilities so people across the state can enjoy the game they love”, said Mr Taliadoros.

As a native Victorian, Mr Filopoulos said he was drawn to FFV’s renewed focus on growing the game and the opportunity to reinforce football’s place in Victoria’s sporting landscape.

“Football clubs – big and small – are an integral part of our social fabric. They bring people together, they shape local communities, and they play a critical role in promoting a healthy, cohesive society”, he said.

“I’ll be focused on ensuring our clubs have the means and facilities to keep attracting participants into the game, including at grass roots and elite levels, and I’m particularly excited by the opportunity to build on the record number of women and girls coming into football”, said Mr Filopoulos.

“The game has come a long way, and there’s so much more we can achieve as we look to reinforce our place among Australia’s major sporting codes. There’s no reason why Victoria can’t lead the way in that regard”, he said.
