Fresh NTC ready for inaugural PlayStation 4 NPLW season

NTC kicks off its season on March 9

With the launch of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Victoria Women's, the Senior and Junior NTC girls squads are ready to tackle the new-look top flight with fresh squads.

2015 was a successful year for the program, with MelindaJ Barbieri, Whitney Knight, Annabel Martin, Melissa Taranto, Adriana Taranto all turning out in the Westfield W-League for Melbourne Victory, while several others trained with the two Melbourne clubs with an eye to the future.

That included WPL Goalkeeper of the Year Teresa Morrissey, who also made the bench for Melbourne Victory against the Western Sydney Wanderers.

The new season will provide its share of new challenges to the squad, with over half the senior squad of 2015 moved onto new PlayStation 4 NPLW clubs.

That result in itself is a key indicator of the success of the NTC program along with the amount of players been given the opportunities to compete at Senior PlayStation 4 NPLW and Westfield W-League level.

While taking a younger group of players into the new season is a challenge, it is also indicative of the current technical and tactical understanding of the group, as well as the support and improvement of women’s football growth through coaching and player development.

Head coach Stefan Busso can't wait for the action to begin, and see the improvement of the squad over the coming year.

"This year will be a great opportunity for learning and development for all of our players," Busso said.

"We are very excited by the fresh look to our squad. Our Junior and Senior squads have now been together since November, and they are already showing an inspiring level of team spirit and an excellent work ethic on and off the field.

"We look forward to seeing talents such as MelindaJ Barbieri, Nina Bucalo and Coby McInerney growing into players capable of taking the next step in their careers, whether that be Westfield W-League or youth national teams."

This season will also see the NTC squads move to a mid-week timeslot, ensuring that there are no byes throughout the league season.
