Goulburn North East Set For Kick-Off
FFV GNE teams commit to regional affiliate competition in 2016
Competition in Goulburn North East will kick-off in May as the regional affiliate competition of Football Federation Victoria continues to provide football to the region.
All six member clubs are optimistic of building on last year's junior competitions as they commit to fielding teams in Boys Under-12s, Under-14s and Under-17s as well as an entry level junior girls competition (age group to be confirmed shortly). All clubs are also working towards a full complement of both senior men's and senior women's competitions.
Preceding the May start will be a pre-season cup between FFV GNE and Bendigo Amateur Soccer League (BASL) clubs.
This year's Goulburn North East leagues will feature three teams from Shepparton (Shepparton SC, Shepparton United and Shepparton South) along with Tatura, Kyabram and the returning Benalla Rovers.
The home-and-away season kicks off on Sunday May 22, 2016 and runs through until Grand Finals on Sunday October 2.
FFV CEO Peter Gome said GNE clubs were to be commended for working towards a positive outcome for football in the region.
"FFV fully supports football in the Goulburn North East region," Gome said.
"We are working with clubs to understand the unique challenges the region faces, but the upcoming season shows that all clubs in the GNE are dedicated to sustaining a healthy regional competition.
"With state-wide football participation growing by 13 per-cent in 2015 it is vital that players in the Goulburn North East region have healthy clubs and a vibrant local competition to cater for the game's growth in popularity and players."
