Sunraysia coaches' thirst for knowledge
Coaches in the Sunraysia region eagerly attended the community coaching courses recently held in Mildura.
The Sunraysia football community were treated to a full week of top quality coaching instruction with FFV Zone Development Officer Darren Tan running three community coaching courses.
Darren presented the Junior Football Licence, the Youth Football Certificate and the Senior Football Certificate.
Another key aspect of his visit was the training of FFV Sunraysia Regional Administrator Ross Mosello as a course presenter and assessor. This means that Ross can run the coaching courses as often as the Sunraysia region needs them and can perform an ongoing mentoring role as he will see the coaches progress throughout the season.
Darren said that the coaches very willing pupils.
“The coaches were very responsive to the methodology of what we are trying to do at a community level for coaching,” he said.
“They were enthusiastic, willing to learn and eager to absorb the information.”
The goal of these courses is to have better educated coaches who will hopefully create a fun environment that fosters player development.
“People want to play the game more than anything else and the more coaches can run seasons that replicate situations that would be encountered in a game with as few stoppages as possible,” said Darren.
“Through the game related exercises that we demonstrate to the coaches we hope to get more players involved.”
FFV Sunraysia Regional Administrator Ross Mosello said that everyone was very impressed with Darren and the courses.
“There was a decent amount of information and practical work that attendees had to be done, and I think it really opened their eyes,” he said.
“These courses are important as if we have better educated coaches we will end up with a better standard of player in a snowball effect.”
