The FFV State Knockout Cup Quarter-Finals are once again being run in a round robin format this year which will see two pools of three clubs fight it out for a spot in the semi-finals.

The teams in each pool with play each other once with the top two teams in each pool going through to the semi-finals. There will be no draws with each match going through extra time and penalties if required to find a winner.

The group format is necessary after Hyundai A-League clubs Melbourne Heart and Melbourne Victory declined to participate.

2012 Cup Run

Dandenong Thunder: Peninsula Strikers 3-1 (State League Three S/E), Springvale White Eagles 10-1 (State League One), Altona Magic 4-0 (State League One), Heidelberg United LOSS 2-3 (Victorian Premier League)

Cobram Victory: Cobram SC 3-1 (Regional), Wodonga Diamonds 3-1 (Regional), Werribee City 3-2 (State League One), Moreland Zebras 3-1 (Victorian Premier League), Bentleigh Greens 6-1 (Victorian Premier League)

Cup History

Dandenong Thunder best: Round Six (2011)

Cobram Victory best: Round Six (2011)

The Pool B ladder is the complete opposite of the Victorian Premier League table as Dandenong Thunder sit on the bottom while Heidelberg United are on top. Dandenong will want to change that with a win against regional side Cobram Victory, but with the away side already having knocked out VPL team Moreland Zebras and Bentleigh Greens – it won’t be a simple task.

Bentleigh and Moreland may not have sent full strength sides away to Cobram, but with 6-1 and 3-1 victories, it shows that last year’s Regional Challenge Champions are a force to be reckoned with.

Pascoe Vale v Sunshine George Cross – Pool A

Sunshine George Cross: Richmond 2-0 (Victorian Premier League), Mildura City 3-0 (Regional), Southern Stars 2-1 (Victorian Premier League)

Cup History

Pascoe Vale best: Quarter Final (2004)

Sunshine George Cross best: Winners x3 (1959, 1962, 1978)

Having only had to play three matches to make it this far, including victories over two Victorian Premier League outfits, Sunshine George Cross will be hoping their less hectic schedule will put them in good stead against Pascoe Vale who will be playing their fourth match in eleven days – putting them right into the fatigue zone.

A win by the three time Cup winners, Sunshine George Cross, will guarantee progress to the Semi-Final and will knock Pascoe Vale out. A win to the home side though, will leave the group totally open, going down to the final match.
