Club enjoying on and off-field success of women's team

Mill Park Soccer Club has relaunched their women’s team in 2012 and couldn’t be happier with the results.

While the on-field aspect of the team is excellent, with the team currently one point behind league leaders Mitchell Rangers with a game in hand, the off-field side as seen the club create a positive atmosphere for female involvement in the sport.

Mill Park captain Tara De Melo said that playing football is one of the best decisions she has ever made.

“Every time we play we play it’s not just about competing, we see it as a way to have fun,” she said.

“This team was made mainly because a heap of family and friends were keen to play. Though new people to the club are treated as family as well, it’s a great atmosphere.

“It would be great to see more women involved and I encourage anyone who is thinking about it to at least give it a try.”

The club has established its own women's group to provide guidance, support and advice to the senior committee on developing women’s football further.

The senior women’s team has on its own taken on a greater responsibility to assist the club develop and promote this plan and have planned functions, fundraisers and brought sponsors to the club.

The club is now ready to launch into 2013 with a major advertising campaign to support woman's football in the Northern Suburbs.
