Box Hill United promoted to State League One


Box Hill United 2-1 Whittlesea Ranges

Box Hill United have sealed promoted to State League One with a 2-1 come from behind win over Whittlesea Ranges in the State League Playoff Final at Kingston Heath on Saturday.
All three goals came directly from defensive errors, with the weather proving difficult to deal with. Ranges took the lead courtesy of a goalkeeping error by Tomas Kovar in the first half before Box Hill got back on terms when Ranges conceded an own goal on the hour mark.

The match was decided in the 80th minute when Petr Kratky scored from the spot after teammate Samuel Catherine was brought down in the box. 

Box Hill dominated the early part of the contest with Skipper Matty Collier and Petr Kratky having the best of the early chances.

Despite their attacking threat, Box Hill were stunned when mid-way through the first-half Whittlesea were gifted the opening goal as a Phil Hawkins back pass was uncontrolled by Kovar allowing Giogha the easy task of a simple finish into the empty net.
Ranges skipper Daniel Giogha had the simple task of finishing into an empty net after a mistake from Box Hill keeper Tomas Kovar.
Despite falling behind Box Hill continued to pepper the Ranges goal, with Dario Dinapoli producing a string of saves to keep his side in front.
Whittlesea did well to on to the lead until a Kratky free kick dipped into the box and was unintentionally scrambled over the line by a Whittlesea defender.

Wth ten minutes left Samuel Catherine had his ankles clipped in the box, allowing Kratky to set up on the spot.

And the Czech didn’t disappoint, dispatching a powerful strike into the bottom corner handing his side the lead and promotion to State League One. 

Box Hill Coach Manni Katakis was proud of the effort of the whole squad.

“We are really, really proud of the guys that are able to work together, and not only that, the assistant coaches, physios, president and committee members have all chipped in a done their part,” he said.

Katakis was also delighted with the performance of Czech Petr Kratky.

“We were able to penetrate through his explosiveness and his experience has definitely helped us get the youngsters over the line,” Katakis said.

“We were really, really happy with his performance, his second-half in particular.”
