Postecoglou named Victorian Sport Awards coach of the year
The honour was awarded to Postecoglou at the VicSport awards on Wednesday night
Socceroos head coach Ange Postecoglou has been awarded the Victorian Sport Awards coach of the year after a historical 2015.
In January 2015, Australia hosted the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup, where the Socceroos flourished on the home turf, only losing one match for the whole tournament.
Led by Postecoglou the Socceroos finished the group stage with two wins over Kuwait and Oman, and losing to South Korea.
The Socceroos went on to defeat China 2-0 in the quarter finals, matching that performance with a 2-0 victory over the United Arab Emirates in the semi-finals.
Australia was ultimately too good for South Korea in the final, winning 2-1 thanks to a late winner by James Troisi in extra time.
It was Australia’s first Asian Cup title.
The victory has earned Australia the right to participate in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, which is to be hosted by Russia.
After such a successful campaign, Postecoglou was named AFC Coach of the Year and the Socceroos were named AFC Team of the Year.
During 2015, Postecoglou and the Socceroos enjoyed a terrific record of ten wins, two draws, and two losses which included a draw against FIFA World Cup Champions Germany.
FFV would like to extend its congratulations to Ange Postecoglou and the Socceroos on an extremely successful year, and wishes them all the best in 2016.
