President's Update - June 2017
From the FFV President
Congratulations to all the clubs, participants, and volunteers on your efforts for the 2017 season to date. Your commitment underpins the health and vitality of football in Victoria.
With over 38,000 matches amongst 330 clubs on 900 grounds across Victoria, the staff of the FFV will continue to work diligently alongside you.
Our Bold Vision and Reform Agenda
The overwhelming demand to play football amongst girls and boys is applying onerous pressure on our finances, capacity and infrastructure, therefore the FFV needs to adapt.
We are focused on supporting clubs, developing facilities and attracting additional investment to the game across the state. This demands stronger integration with our clubs and more productive relationships with government, based on our social responsibilities to lead the building of inclusive, healthy and safe communities.
Four recently elected FFV directors significantly enhance our governance capability across risk, legal, and strategy bolstered with a profound responsibility to the game, with two additional directors to be appointed shortly. It is also with great pride that we announce the appointment of Antonella Care as FFV’s inaugural Vice President.
Chief Executive Officer Maxwell Gratton is embarking on a bold new strategic plan this year with the organisational restructure well underway. While these changes are significant, we have enormous faith in the culture and work ethic of our staff and their outstanding resilience and commitment.
Unfortunately, the FFV has been the subject of adverse and ill-informed media commentary in recent months. At times, our management of the public relations has been poor, however I wish to clarify:
- Our policy is not to publically comment on legal or employment matters
- The organisational restructure is within budget and significantly less than speculated
- At no time was any infrastructure funding withheld from FFV by government.
Our Next Steps
We are committed to driving strategic reforms to support the welfare and prosperity of the game and ensuring our integrity and governance is held in the highest regard. In the coming weeks and months, the FFV will announce a series of initiatives, including:
- An update on the pitches at Darebin (DISC)
- Our State Facilities Plan and strategy
- A Strategic Plan designed to provide the platform for bold sustainable growth.
Myself, the Board, and the FFV management will keep you informed and engaged throughout.
