Level 1, 2, and 3 Refereeing Courses

Level 3

The level 3 training program is aimed at Level 4 match officials who aspire to referee at a higher level and continue to grow as a referee and understanding of the Online Laws of the Game.
The program consists of theory workshops, including written responses and practical workshops and experience.

Obtaining your accreditation (Enrolment Process).

Enrolment into the Level 3 course will be available at the start of each year (pre-season) with a second intake mid season.
If you are interested in registering for a Level 3 upgrade course, please put forward to their referee group coach for consideration at any time and start the development process. Referee groups can nominate members for consideration in relation to games that would assist that transition planning.

Course Prerequisites

- Applicants must be active referees of at least 16 years old at completion.
- Applicants must clearly exhibit the competencies required of a Level 4 referee
- Course fee of $125

Level 2

The Level 2 training programs provides the theoretical education for referees who aspire to officiate in senior and professional competitions.

The course consists of classroom-based training including Laws of the Game examinations (written responses, multiple choice and video incidents).

Once the Theory component is completed you may choose to undertake the remaining components to gain the 'full' qualification as a Level 2 Referee. These are undertaken over the course of at least one full season.

These components include practical assessments on senior matches as an assistant referee and referee (a minimum of one match each) as well as creation of a Program Folder which is reviewed by your Member Federation.

This folder is then used as part of gaining the Level 1 Referee qualification.

Please note that Units 1 and 2 of this training program are to be completed as 'home study' prior to your attendance at the course.

Course Prerequisites

  • Applicants must be active referees of at least 18 years old at completion.
  • Applicants must hold a current level 3 accreditation

Level 1

This training program provides the theoretical education for referees who aspire to officiate in matches ranging from junior football to the highest level of senior football in their State, Territory or region and potentially at national level.

Referees must hold a current Level 3 (or higher) Assessor qualification to register for this course.

The course consists of classroom-based training including Laws of the Game examinations (written responses, multiple choice and video incidents).

Once the Theory component is completed you may choose to undertake the practical components over the course of a minimum of one season.

These include practical mentoring of a colleague and practical assessments on NPL matches as a referee (a minimum of two matches).
