FFA Cup Qualifying Team Entry Opens
The road to the 2018 Westfield FFA Cup is set to start in Victoria as the call goes out for Regional and Metro team entries.
Clubs in Regional Affiliate leagues and Metropolitan leagues must nominate to enter the tournament. Participation in the FFA Cup is mandatory for NPL Victoria and State League clubs, with the exception of Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City's NPL teams.
Victoria led the nation in team entries in 2017 with 217 clubs participating. Regional teams from the Albury Wodonga Football Association, Bendigo, Shepparton, Ballarat, Warrnambool, Gippsland and Mildura all competed in the early rounds.
The most successful Regional Affiliates were Irymple Knights, Cobram Roar, Falcons 2000 and Forest Rangers, all of whom made the second round.
FFV is inviting all Regional Affiliate clubs to enter the 2018 edition of the FFA Cup.
FFV would also like to announce and congratulate six new admissions to the Men's State Leagues, all of whom will start in State League 5 Men's in 2018 and subsequently earn automatic entry to the FFA Cup.
The six new clubs State League Men's clubs are Mount Waverley City SC, Knox United SC, Boronia SC, Barwon SC, Alphington FC and West Point SC.
South Melbourne advanced the furthest of any Victorian club in 2017, making the semi-finals before bowing out to eventual champion Sydney FC.
Victoria will send five clubs to the National Round of 32 in 2018, with Heidelberg United already qualified after winning the NPL National Finals Series. Four clubs will be determined by the Victorian qualifying rounds, which Heidelberg will not participate in.
The four FFA Cup National Round of 32 qualifiers and Heidelberg United will also compete for the Dockerty Cup, Victoria's men's state knock-out cup. The details how how a playoff will be determined for the five teams to fit into four Dockerty Cup semi-final slots will be announced by FFV at a later date.
